Online Course
Learn Installation Rules the taught way—step-by-step calculation videos for Paper 1 and Paper 2, matching study-guide chapters with past exam links, downloadable PDFs, and progress tracking so you can practise the method and pass with confidence.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 — videos, online study guides, and downloadable resources
Prefer a taught path through Installation Rules? This online course pairs step-by-step calculation videos with matching study-guide chapters so you can learn the method, then practise it against the national papers.
Watch Paper 1 and Paper 2 calculation walkthroughs, then open the linked chapters — OHS legislation and SANS 10142-1 fundamentals for Paper 1, and installation practice, verification, and related standards for Paper 2. Where past exam questions map to the material, you can jump to them from the chapter, mark sections complete, and track your progress.
Use the Videos tabs for calculation walkthroughs, the Study Guide tabs for reading and exam-linked practice, and Resources for papers and reference material. Study at your own pace with 12-month access.
One trimester for each examination (part time).
Two three hour national examination papers will be set comprising 100 marks each. No admission requirements are necessary.
The pass mark for Paper 1 and Paper 2 is 50%.
Both examination papers may be written during the same trimester period. However, candidates need not to pass both examinations during the same trimester, but the second examination must be passed within 12 months of the first, otherwise both examinations must be re-written. However, if a candidate obtains 75% of 100 marks in any one of the examinations, he or she will be permanently exempted from re-writing that examination. A minimum pass of 50% for each examination paper must be obtained in the instructional offering Installation Rules. An appropriate statement of results will be issued by the Department of Education.
For accreditation purposes, all candidates must also have proof of competence with regard to the required unit standards prescribed by the Department of Labour. The information brochure for registration is available on the Department of Labour’s website: http://www.labour.gov.za/documents/useful-documents/occupational-health-and-safety/information-brochure-for-application-of-accredited-person-for-electrical-installation
No condonation will be considered.
Taxonomies such as knowledge, understanding and application are important aspects of these examinations and the proportion of these in the question papers should be as follows:
During the examinations, tables for the applicable codes will be provided.
The online course covers both Installation Rules papers. Paper 1 focuses on legislation, SANS 10142-1 fundamentals, cable standards, and LV earthing. Paper 2 (code 11040432) focuses on installation practice, verification, related annexes, and SANS 1973-3.
